Threats that affect this watershed include overwatering, litter, and household hazardous waste. The Santa Margarita watershed encompasses a land area of approximately 750 square miles in northern San Diego and the Southwest portion of Riverside County including the cities of Menifee, Murrieta, Wildomar, and Temecula. The presence of the camp and inaccessibility of the landscape contributes to its undisturbed existence. After it reaches the south end of the Santa Ana Mountains it forms a large flood plain as it crosses Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. The mainstream of the river begins at the confluence of Temecula and Murrieta Creek east of Interstate 15.

San Lorenzo Valley Water District Vice Chair (term exp.The Santa Margarita Watershed, the second largest river basin in the Southern California coastal plain, provides water for the residents of Southwestern Riverside County which includes cities such as Murrieta and Temecula. Have questions or concerns about the Water District or Community Bridges services and programs? I want to hear from you! We provide child care to all families - including at Highlands Park & and the Redwood Child Development Center and we work to eliminate childhood hunger. There we make sure Santa Cruz County seniors are fed through Meals on Wheels food deliveries. I got involved with the issues that matter right outside my front door through water policy advocacy and school site policy-making and I took a job with nonprofit Community Bridges. Along the way, I built relationships across our community around housing, economic development, social equity, environmental preservation and more.Ĭommunities are an ecosystem and like our watershed, each piece must be carefully maintained to ensure its health.Īfter the CZU fire, I made the decision to focus on maintaining my own "ecosystem," after two decades of commuting over the hill, by changing my career. After covering the central coast, I made the leap into transportation and infrastructure issues doing community outreach and communications for the San Mateo County Transit District, Caltrain, Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District, and San Jose Water. I got my start in broadcast journalism in the late 90s, as a morning news producer and weekend reporter at KSBW in Salinas. Our oldest daughter (approved photo to come) is now working on her Master's degree at the London School of Economics after finishing her undergraduate work in Communications at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Our youngest is set to graduate from SLV highschool in 2022. With cousins in Boulder Creek and now a sister in Scotts Valley, our commitment to this community runs deep. He joined his brother - a Henry Cowell Park Ranger, living in Felton.

I was a young widow when Dean and I brought our daughters Cassie and Zoe together to build a new family. With all of SLV's Memorial Day parades and small-town charm, it felt immediately like home.ĭean moved to the valley to be near family already living here in the late 1990s. The San Lorenzo Valley community welcomed me 15 years ago when I married my husband, Dean. If you agree, I'm humbly asking for your vote to continue serving our community on the SLV Water Board. Help me ensure the recovery work continues. The challenges facing the Water District as we navigate recovery and consolidations with our smaller, fire-damaged, neighboring systems can not be delayed. The work of restoring the SLV Water District's infrastructure and improving it to withstand the demands of climate change is my top priority. I'm asking San Lorenzo Valley to return me to the Water District Board of Directors because there is more work to do protecting and preserving our water system and ensuring that we are making thoughtful decisions that aren't subject to change based on the political whims of a constantly rotating board. I promised to run for my seat at the first opportunity both to earn your trust and to ensure continuity while we do the hard work of restoring our water system post-CZU fire.

But now I'm asking you to send me back to finish the job. Since the 2020 election, San Lorenzo Valley's Water District Directors have appointed three of it's five seats.Īs a SLV resident of more than 15 years, and a water and infrastructure expert I was honored with the trust our board placed in me to serve.
